Engineer Manager

DESCRIPTION:

 

This position is responsible for developing solutions to production challenges, developing new product designs for specific truck applications, and changing existing products at Fontaine Modification Company (FMC). Projects must be meet time and budget requirements in order to fulfill the requirements of customers and FMC engineering. Each project requires accurate documentation. This manager directly supports production activities in a fast-paced production facility.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Manage new engineering projects as directed by the general manager, including:

  • Working closely with customer and internal engineers to satisfy customer requirements.

  • Managing a focused group of technicians to develop manufacturing processes for a group of trucks based upon the first truck in the group.

  • Designing assembly fixtures or parts.

  • Writing work instructions for new & existing designs.

  • Completing, or updating, bills of material.

  • Creating, evaluating & improving production processes to meet build time targets.

  • Ensuring safety, quality and efficiency in production through designs and instructions.

  • Supporting sales engineers in the quoting process on first time parts and processes.

  • Ensuring proper documentation that meet FMVSS rules and regulations.

 

EDUCATION/COMPETENCIES/EXPERIENCES:

 

  • Engineering management experience.

  • Mechanical Engineer (BSME) or Electrical Engineer (BSEE) degree.

  • Drafting and design experience (Autodesk Inventor preferred).

  • Automotive or truck engineering experience required.

  • Some level of understanding with automotive electronics systems (J1939 experience a plus).
